Mixed Fortunes...

It has been a month since my last post and quite a bit has happened since then!

During several weeks of non stop rain, our field turned into a swamp and it was impossible to get much work done on fencing. We kept having to extend both paddocks in various directions to ensure the lambs had enough grass (the babies being weaned now). A couple more went down with mild bloat but seemed to recover. Our limper continued to limp but did not seem to bothered about it.

Eventually, the sun came out, the field dried out, the bloat was gone and half the babies (although they are getting quite big now) got poorly tummies :-( We moved them in with the bigger ones as there was more shade and wormed them so hopefully it will clear up. Some were in quite a state behind so Cathy, Lou and Lara had the lovely task of crutching them (Google it if you don't know what it is, but stay away from the images close to meals!) Unfortunately, our efforts were not enough and we lost Cheeky, our little black lamb. A couple more are appearing quite weak but we have given them some rehydratyion salts and bottled fed water and it seems to have livened them up a bit. Although they are destined for slaughter eventually, it is sad that we have lost one like this.

On a lighter note, the fencing is finally finished!!! Much harder than we ever expected but a great achievement. All being well, all lambs will be released out into the main field tomorrow.

Here are some up to date pics and a video (all  the pictures are in the gallery - link to the right)....
